Rutgers Gardens Log Cabin


The Garden Club of New Jersey has received two (2) grants for projects at Rutgers Gardens that encompass improvements and renovation of the grounds surrounding the Log Cabin.

The Garden Club of New Jersey has received a $1,000 grant from the National Garden Clubs, Inc. to work in cooperation with The Rutgers Gardens to construct a 'Rain Garden' in the center of the Log Cabin Parking Lot. Rutgers Gardens has agreed that the existing free standing informational board may be used by GCNJ to explain the function and concept of a rain garden and that GCNJ may make other informational material on WATERWISE solutions in gardening available to all who visit the site. The Garden Club of New Jersey has received a $2,000 grant from The Principal Financial Group(Press Release) and National Garden Clubs, Inc. Team to Preserve Historic Gardens, along with The Rutgers Gardens, to do a complete evaluation of the existing garden grounds and make necessary changes to bring them into conformance with the historic period using native and regional plants plus cultivars available through 1936 (when the cabin was built).
